The things we value most often serve as an extension of our self-awareness and reflect a part of how we feel about ourselves. Therefore, the loss of such an object in a dream is significant. In losses of this kind, the indication may be that you are nervous about losing an expensive or important new object in your life. Your computer and the files on it at work often personify yourself. You may feel damaged or that things are deteriorating. Your identity is threatened or something valuable (including time) has been lost.

Dream Disturbances

Nothing could be madder, more irresponsible, more dangerous than this guidance of men by dreams. - George Santayana Our dreams disturb us because they refuse to pander to our fondest notions of ourselves. The closer one looks, the more they seem to insist upon a challenging proposition: You must live truthfully. Right now. And always. Few forces in life present, with an equal sense of inevitability, the bare- knuckle facts of who we are, and the demands of what we might become. - Marc Ian Barasch, Healing Dreams It is impracticable, however, to keep our sleep free from stimuli; they impinge upon the sleeper from all sides - like the germs of life which Mephistopheles complained - from without and from within and even from parts of his body which are quite unnoticed in waking life. Thus sleep is disturbed; first one corner of the mind is shaken into wakefulness and then another; the mind functions for a brief moment with its awakened portion and is then glad to fall asleep once more. Dreams are a reaction to the disturbance of sleep brought about by a stimulus - a reaction, incidentally, which is quite superfluous.

Problem-Solving Dreams

Don't be pushed by your problems. Be led by your dreams. -Anonymous In addition to the personal relevance of dreams it is becoming increasingly clear that they are also a source of knowledge for understanding issues beyond the individual concerns of a given dreamer. Social problems, some physical diseases, parallels with the findings of modern physics are a few of the domains that we know dreams address.. - J. Gary Sparks I took the family alarm clock and went into the spare bedroom that night, and set it for an hour and a half. And thereafter when I was working on a story I would waken myself every hour and a half through the night - force myself to wake up, think of the story, try to solve it, and even as I as thinking about it I would fall back asleep. And in the morning there would be a solution for that particular story problem. Now, that's penetrating the sub-conscious in my opinion. It's penetrating it in a way that I don't think they'll be able to do any better, thirty centuries from now. - A. E. van Vogt, in Dream Makers Both Thomas Edison and Harry Truman had one thing in common. Whenever they faced a problem for which they had no solution, they excused themselves and took naps. When they awoke, each invariably had the answer to his problem. - Dusty Bunker I have known advocates who have pleaded in dreams, mathematicians who have sought to solve problems; and poets who have composed verses. I have made some myself which are very passable. It is therefore incontestable that constructive ideas occur in sleep as well as when we are awake. - Voltaire On one level the personality attempts to solve problems through dream construction... and often this gives freedom to actions that cannot be expressed within the confines of waking life. - Seth (by Jane Roberts) The fact is indisputable that when our ordinary waking consciousness or will goes to sleep or rest, or even dozes, that instant an entirely different power takes command of the myriad forces of memory. ... This power ... knows things hidden from Me, and can do what I cannot. - Charles Leland, the historian of witchcraft

Dreaming about getting fired.

Dreaming of getting fired from a job may indicate that you subconciously want to end some relationship or situation in your waking life. To dream that you are being attacked by someone, on the other hand, signifies that questions have been raised about your character resulting in a need to defend yourself, and may also be faced with difficult changes in your waking life. A dream about your boss is usually not about your boss but about yourself - each one of us has a part of ourselves that is (either consciously or unconsciously) in control of the other parts, making decisions and accepting responsibility. Arguing with or killing this representation of yourself may indicate your unwillingness to change and adapt to a new situation.

(Psst read the full article about Dreaming at work if you dont want to read it in daily pieces with me!)

Ralph Waldo Trine: DREAM WORK

The mind acting intently along a particular line will continue so to act until some other object of thought carries it along another line. And since in sleep only the body is in quiet while the mind and soul are active, then the mind on being given a certain direction when one drops off to sleep, will take up the line along which it is directed, and can be made, in time, to bring over into consciousness the results of its activities. Some will be able very soon to get results of this kind; for some it will take longer. Quiet and continued effort will increase the faculty.
Then by virtue of the law of the drawing power of mind, since the mind is always active, we are drawing to us even while sleeping influences from the realms kindred to those in which we in our thoughts are living before we fall asleep. In this way we can put ourselves into relation with whatever kinds of influence we choose, and accordingly gain much during the process of sleep.
In many ways the interior faculties are more open and receptive while we are in sleep than while we are awake. Hence the necessity of exercising even greater care as to the nature of the thoughts that occupy the mind as we enter into sleep ...
And for the same reason - this greater degree of receptivity during this period - we are able by understanding and using the law to gain much of value more readily in this way than when the physical senses are fully open to the material world about us.
- Ralph Waldo Trine, Quotes from In Tune with the Infinite, G. This means those involving the three triads centred upon the Yesodic-ego that often carry over into sleep the momentum of mundane activities, such as dreaming that one is still driving a car after a long journey.

The second order of dream is of a deeper nature and is focused upon Tiferet-Self. Here issues of the soul and the individual's integrity are brought out of the unconscious and projected into the screen of Yesod during sleep so that the ego's attention is awakened to the problem. These dreams are more complex to interpret.

The third order of dream, in Kabbalah, is called prophetic dream. The greater prophets were considered to be awake when they were given these visions. (Today also called “Luciod dreaming”). According to tradition, the soul, during sleep, is free to wander in the World of formation, although the physical connection is never broken. Many dreams have the quality of 'astral travel'.

Individuals of a greater development ascend to the upper face of Yezirah and the lower face of Beriah or the transpersonal realm of the Spirit. Here the most highly evolved individuals commune with the Divine during deep sleep and receive revelations 'face to face', as the Bible puts it. However, as in everything Kabbalah urges balance, for to become too preoccupied with dreams is to live in the wrong world ... and therefore only those dreams that are naturally remembered should be noted. This was the psyche's original intention. To examine every dream can become obsessional, like X-raying our alimentary canal every time we have a meal.

Dream Interpretation Quote of the day

Dreaming permits each and every one of us to be quietly and safely insane every night of our lives.

--William Dement

Dream Guidance Part 2

Our dreams disturb us because they refuse to pander to our fondest notions of ourselves. Cayce was known as the "sleeping prophet" because of his ability to decipher individuals dreams while in a trance state. He had a seventh grade eduation, was a seer, a clairvoyant and is well-known for predicting such events as the World Wars and the Great Depression. I studied and used his methods for quite some time and they were my starting point into the world of dreams. Later, I became fascinated with the complex works of Carl G. Jung (1875 - 1961) which, for me, took the meaning of dreams to entirely new and exciting levels. His ideas about how dreams are the gateway to the individuation process motivated me to look deeper into their meanings and to hold them in a special place.
If you decide to start your journey with Edgar Cayce you will find that he offered techniques for deciphering dreams. Carl Jung, on the otherhand, does not offer a set method of interpretation. Either way, once you start paying attention to your dreams you will undoubtly come upon your own unique method of deciphering them.
The first thing you should do is start writing down your dreams. It does not matter whether you remember bits and pieces or whole chunks of information, each part is important and none should be discarded. You may also want to invest in a dream interpretation book but always keep in mind that your own interpretation of an image is just as relevant.
One method I have used to interpret dreams is to first write out the dream, collect your dream interpretations and then replace each symbol with its meaning. For example, below is a dream written out and next is the replacement of each symbol and then a simple interpretation:
1. Dream - "I am driving a car down a bumpy road. Before me are two tunnels and I have to choose which one to enter. I choose the right tunnel."
2. Replacement - "I am driving a (journey) down a (challenging) (path). Before me are (choices, conflict) (paths) and I have to choose which one to enter. I choose the (consciousness) (path).
3. Interpretation - From the above you can decipher that you are being asked to make a decision which up to this point has been challenging for you to get to. But you have made it. You must choose and your choice was consciouness. This means you have chosen to become aware of a certain aspect of yourself, your life or situation, knowledge etc. The next step would be to find out what's at the other end of the tunnel. That will be revealed in the next dream :)
The more you tackle your dreams the more intuitive you will become about what they mean.
Happy Dreaming!
copyright 2005 Nicole Rivera / SpiritQuest Network. Isn't it a mirror that will retell to oblivion the true story of a dreamer who, a long, long time ago, went through life the way one reads a book? Once the book is closed, the reader can go on his way with all the treasures it had to teach."
In the world of the dreamer there was solitude: all the exaltations and joys came in the moment of preparation for living. They took place in solitude. But with action came anxiety, and the sense of insuperable effort made to match the dream, and with it came weariness, discouragement, and the flight into solitude again. And then in solitude, in the opium den of remembrance, the possibility of pleasure again.
I disguised the woman in myself to be allowed to re-enter the world of the poet, the dreamer, the child.
The drugs, instead of bringing fertile images which in turn can be shared with the world ... have instead become a solitary vice, a passive dreaming which alienates the dreamer from the whole world, isolates him, ultimately destroys him."

Interesting article about dream interpretaiton in the muslim world

Published in Cairo by AL-AHRAM established in 1875
Al-Ahram Weekly, Egypt - 22 Jun 2006
... Small wonder then that dream interpretation has emerged as an ever more popular pastime. I'd be dreaming along, minding my own business, eating a dreamy something, when suddenly a tooth would come loose, and would fall out of my mouth. Then another; and another. My dream self would be helplessly mystified as my rootless teeth filled up my hand.

Someone once told me that losing one's teeth in a dream signifies the real-life fear of losing one's children.

...

My friend, who was studying dream interpretation and therapy at the time, told me that I was subconsciously feeling smothered by the demands of motherhood, a negative feeling that was only able to be expressed in a dream.

Which didn't make me feel so good about myself. I decided that dream interpretation must be hogwash.

But looking back from the safety of years, I suspect that there might have been some small truth in my friend's assessment. I'd had three children in five years: in retrospect, those were some overwhelming days.

...

I have been thinking about dreams all week, because the director of the dance school that two of my daughters attend asked me to write about dreams for the program of this year's dance concert, the theme of which is "Dreams."

...

Dreams are not real, but we have all had dreams that seem to our waking selves to be realer than real life.

Dreams are powerful, but intangible. Dreams define us and inspire us. Our dreams can stretch us or scare us, if we let them. "Man is a genius when he is dreaming," said the Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa, who obviously put his dreams to good use in the crafting of his classic movies.

We can analyze our dreams or ignore them, heed them or dismiss them, write them down or forget them as we wake. We should always remember, though, that our dreams can give us strength, vision and courage as we walk the path of life.

"The future belongs," said Eleanor Roosevelt, "to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams."

...

"We are such stuff as dreams are made on," wrote Shakespeare, nearly 500 years ago, and he is still exactly right.

We are such stuff.

Dreams, like hope, like soul, are among the many lovely qualities that make us human. "I dream, therefore I exist," said the Swedish playwright August Strindberg, reminding us of the complicated dance performed within us by those sparkling and incendiary partners, mind and matter.

"Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die,
"Life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly,"

wrote the American poet Langston Hughes, who, as a black writer in the first half of the twentieth century, knew a thing or two about pursuing his dreams in the face of difficult odds.

A civil rights visionary in American history, Martin Luther King Jr., repeated a stirring phrase in his never-to-be-forgotten speech in Washington, D.C., in 1963: "I have a dream," he said. Nine times he said it. He listed the ways in which his dream of brotherhood and sisterhood, in becoming reality, could change the heart and soul and workings of our nation.

We're still working on his dream, as we make unsteady progress toward the reality of equality for all in the United States, when we will truly be "free at last, free at last." We have a dream.
"To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub," said Hamlet, in one of his moods, pondering the last big sleep of life. Hamlet was concerned that perhaps the peaceful sleep of death would actually be disturbed by the kind of terrible dreams he'd been having.

But I prefer to think that, in the afterlife, dreams no longer fill any human need, as wouldn't the paradise of the presence of God be every dream come true?

We cannot know, but we can dream sweet dreams.

Dreams - God's Forgotten Language

God's Forgotten language. - Rev. There are, I think some sixteen chapters in the Old Testament and four or five in the New in which dreams are mentioned, and there are many other passages scattered throughout the book which refer to visions. Even more surprisingly, 65 percent of women and 43 percent of men reported waking up in a cold sweat, worried about their jobs! Fully 25 percent experience those nightmares once a week or more.

The researchers asked participants what their work-related dreams were specifically about. Here are the responses they received in order of frequency:

• Arguing with your boss.
• Being late missing an important meeting.
• Lusting after a colleague.
• Having to make an unexpected presentation.
• Going to work naked.
• Losing all their files in a fatal computer crash.
• Getting fired.
• Killing the boss.

Over the next few days we'll look at what each of these common dreams about work may represent.

Ralph Waldo Trine: DREAM GUIDANCE

Many will find a practice somewhat after the following nature of value: When light or information is desired along any particular line, light or information you feel it is right and wise for you to have, as, for example, light in regard to an uncertain course of action, then as you retire, first bring your mind into the attitude of peace and good will for all.

You in this way bring yourself into an harmonious condition, and in turn attract to yourself these same peaceful conditions from without. Then resting in this sense of peace, quietly and calmly send out your earnest desire for the needed light or information; cast out of your mind all fears or forebodings lest it come not, for "in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength." Take the expectant attitude of mind, firmly believing and expecting that when you awake the desired results will be with you.

Then on awaking, before any thoughts or activities from the outside world come in to absorb the attention, remain for a little while receptive to the intuitions or the impressions that come. When they come, when they manifest themselves clearly, then act upon them without delay. In the degree that you do this, in that degree will the power of doing it ever more effectively grow.

- Ralph Waldo Trine, In Tune with the Infinite, G. Actually, there is quite a lot of dream interpretation in the bible itself, and that dream interpretation is often perceived as a message from God. Dream Interpretation can be viewed either way. A third way to view dream interpretation is purely psychological. Within our society and personal lives, we associate meanings with various symbols. Take for instance the white rabbit. In the book “Alice in Wonderland” the white rabbit leads Alice on an adventure down the rabbit hole. The symbol is used again in the movie “The matrix”, when the main character sees a white rabbit as a tattoo, and goes down a “rabbit hole” or adventure of his own. So to dream of a white rabbit may indicate that you feel that something quite mundane in your life may actually turn out to be quite extraordinary. Although this example is simple psychology, it could also be used as a symbol for divination. (Divination involves predicting the future.) So you could interpret this dream to mean that something quite out of the ordinary is going to happen to you soon! See how something that you FEEL may happen to you, becomes something that WILL happen to you if you use the dream symbol as a method of divination?

So what is a Christian to do when they dream about a white rabbit? The answer is to look at the symbol as something that represents how you might be feeling about your life or an aspect of your life at the moment, rather than looking at it as an open foretelling something that is going to happen to you in the future.

Nearly finished the "A" words...

in the Dictionary. it sure takes a long time for those things to come together!

One word that stuck out was "Ambush".. this is what it says:

To dream that your are atacked from ambush, denotes that you have lurking secretly near you a danger, which will soon set upon and overthrow you if you are heedless of warnings.

If you lie in ambush to revenge yourself on others, you will unhesitatingly stoop to debasing actions to defraud your friends.

To see all the other dream interpretaions in the dream dictionary that start with A, click here: http://dreams.spirallibrary.com/articles-pg-10289.htm

Tid-bits on chasing dreams...

Chase dreams can be reactions to events in your waking life. For instance, there may be something you are supposed to do but have been avoiding. If this proposed action is a source of fear, stress and confusion, is can sometimes manifest in your dream life as an attacker or pursuer. Instead of facing your fear, you are running from it, and the attacker in your dreams represents the thing you are trying to get away from or avoid in real life.

In some cases the pursuer or attacker in a chase dream represents not an outside force but part of your self instead. Unresolved feelings of anger, jealousy and fear can often enter your dreams in the form of a threatening or frightening figure. In reality, the attacker in your dreams is a representation of these issues in your waking life.

Dreams where you are being chased can be easy to turn around for many people. Some people are better than others at taking an active role in their dream, but everyone who is aware of their dream should at least try to resolve a frightening dream. For instance, the next time you are being chased in a dream, try turning around and confronting the pursuer. Ask the pursuer what he or she wants and why they are chasing you.

More about dreams of being chased here: http://dreams.spirallibrary.com/articles-pg-10065.htm

Today's dream interpretation - abandon, abandoning

I've actually never felt abandoned in a dream - but I was amazed to read of all the different things it could mean.

To dream that you are abandoned, denotes that you will have difficulty in framing your plans for future success.

To abandon others, you will see unhappy conditions piled thick around you, leaving little hope of surmounting them.
